Let's get outside and enjoy the trails together!
In September, we’re walking the trails at Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve. Stauffer's Marsh is a 46-acre wetland nestled in Back Creek Valley and is owned and managed by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. Once farmland, the property was restored by the USDA through the Wetland Reserve Program, transforming it into a thriving habitat of ponds, marshes, and meadows. The WV Department of Environmental Protection features Stauffer's Marsh on their wetland page here: https://dep.wv.gov/WWE/getinvolved/Pages/Wild-Wonderful-Wetlands.aspx
Stauffer’s Marsh is a haven for migrating and nesting waterfowl and an important refuge for a wide variety of wildlife. As we enjoy a leisurely Wellness Walk through the preserve, we’ll take in the peaceful scenery, look for birds and other wildlife, and admire the pollinator meadow, which should be bursting with colorful fall wildflowers.
The trails are mostly level and easy to walk, offering a relaxing opportunity to enjoy nature and good company.
