Experience the beauty and inspiration of sustainable gardening at the Sustainable Garden Tour along Shepherd Grade Road on Sunday, June 28, from 2–5 pm. This special event invites you to explore five remarkable properties, each showcasing unique approaches to environmentally conscious landscaping.
Wander through five local gardens created for pollinators and friends including Windward Blooms, home of a charming 1834s historic home and working flower farm, and visit the celebrated Sundog Bed and Breakfast, a 46-acre property managed to support native flora and fauna, consisting of both natural and formal gardens. Discover the extensive native plantings and nursery offerings at Birds Nest Nursery, and enjoy two private gardens—one a demonstration of a work in progress to replace lawn with native gardens and trees and another highlighting a deer-resistant garden rich in native plants that harmonizes with a striking contemporary home designed by Hugh Newell Jacobsen.
This is a self guided tour. Guests may tour the gardens, all within an 8-mile loop, in any order, with refreshments and plant and flower sales available at select locations. The tour will feature the gardens only. All proceeds from this enriching afternoon directly support the mission of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, making your visit both enjoyable and impactful.
This event will be held rain or shine, so please dress casually and wear comfortable shoes. Tickets are $25 per person. A map with parking and other details will be emailed to guests prior to the event.
